I think that the trailers and publicity hurt the box office results of Remember Me. The movie is not at all as it was depicted in the trailer that I saw, which made me not want to see the movie on opening night.
Remember Me is a beautiful landscape of family relationships scarred by tragedy but then absolved by love. Rob Pattison’s Tyler is not the violent angry man depicted in the trailer but a kinda goofy guy who loves his little sister and is haunted by the death of his older brother. He is trying to make sense of his place in the family, forging through a new relationship and all along being a likable guy. Not the one we saw in the trailer, who was always angry and throwing things.
The fact that the movie ends on September 11 should have been hinted at earlier in the movie to give it some suspense. The ending is touching in all levels but the director’s use of reflections throughout the movie should have been used in his last shot of Tyler – I won’t spoil it for you with more details.
I will see Remember Me again. I will buy it for my DVD collection. It is well acted. Ruby Jerins is adorable as Tyler’s sister and does a fine job alongside Pierce Brosnan.
The A-list cast makes the movie flow smoothly. Not all characters are explored very well, particularly Tyler’s Mom (Lena Olin), who is a fine actress. And, not everything is explained very well – like the location of the coffee shop where Tyler goes to write every day.
And, finally, Remember Me goes to show that Rob Pattinson is a fine actor, holding his own beside Chris Cooper and Brosnan.

OK, this will surprise EVERYBODY because I started the biggest blog/discussion in amazon.com history about the countdown to New Moon, the movie, and I didn’t even see it until last night.
Surprised? well, my life has been rather difficult the past 15 months so I have a plethora of excuses. Mostly, I just lost the momentum.
So, about the movie. It is very good. I knew that Chris Weitz would do a great job. First of all, he actually directed the actors to perform way better than in Twilight. I was especially impressed with Kristen Stewart – she gets my thumbs up. She was no match for Rob Pattinson in Twilight but in New Moon, she does a very credible job. Even the trailer didn’t hint at the impressive job that Chris Weitz did.
The special effects are pretty good for a low budget film. The werewolves – not a species I particularly like – were actually appealing. Taylor Lautner did a good job of being a friend without making it a competition between himself and Edward.
Now about Rob Pattinson. He gets a big kudo for downplaying the “matinee idol” part. He does not, in my opinion, showcase his hunkiness and continues to portray the troubled vampire, which works for me.
I especially liked it when he kissed Bella good-bye and the audience sees the pain in his face – but Bella doesn’t so she doesn’t know that it is not his choice to leave her. That was a very good, subtle direction on both the actor and Chris Weitz.
My amazon.com friends/followers may remember that I wrote to Mr. Weitz on behalf of the original 28 forum participants. I made some suggestions and I don’t know if Mr. Weitz got the letter but I was also delighted with his choice of “calendaring” the months when Bella is catatonic over Edward’s departure. The window scene showing the passing of the seasons is exactly what I had envisioned and posted on the amazon.com forum.
So all in all, I was pleased with this installment of the Twilight saga. The scenes with the Volturi are splendid and Michael Sheen does a fabulously evil job! not enough time spent with them but then the movie would have been even longer. I was not impressed with Dakota Fanning’s portrayal of Jane, but then again she didn’t have a lot of time to convince me.
I think Chris Weitz was most faithful to the book, in comparison to the previous Twilight director, and I thank him for that.
Please feel free, my faithful followers, to comment.
Cheers!

Good news, Everyone! Summit has released the starring cast for “Remember Me”, who will join Rob Pattinson in this movie penned by Jenny Lumet (daughter of Sidney).
Pierce Brosnan has been confirmed to play Rob (Tyler Roth)’s father in the film. Multiple award-winner (including an Oscar) Chris Cooper will play Emilie de Ravin’s father. Emilie will take the role of Tyler’s girlfriend.
Lena Olin is in talks to join the cast.
The premise of the story is that Tyler is stunned with his brother’s suicide, which has split his parents. He finds Emilie’s character has also gone through a similar tragedy (her mother) but is reacting in a completely different way.

I am thrilled that Rob will be able to act opposite an extremely talented cast (especially Cooper!).

Comments have been made about the fact that Rob smokes cigarettes and drinks alcohol.

My 2 cents: Rob has gone to great pains to not be photographed smoking. This is not easy considering there are always people trying to photograph him. While smoking is not a healthy habit, many many actors smoke, including some of the top talent in the industry. The fact that Rob smokes should not in any way change how we feel about him as an actor and his talent.
Although I’m not entirely certain about the accuracy of this fact, it has been documented that Rob designates a driver when he drinks. If so, this is very responsible and we hope that people follow his example.

1. Sound of Music – it’s perfect. Based on a true story, filmed on location in Austria, a love story, absolutely beautiful music, and good for all ages.
2. Pretty Woman – makes you smile! Richard Gere and Julia Roberts are just plain fabulous together.
3. Speed – the best action thriller! no gratuitous violence or killing. Superb chemistry all around, and in particular between Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Excellent score by Mark Musina. Believe it or not, Speed was the reason I moved to Los Angeles!
4. A Few Good Men – outstanding script by one of the best, Aaron Sorkin. Tom Cruise is at his finest.
5. Titanic – an extraordinary accomplishment for James Cameron. The highest grossing film EVER and no one will come close, is my bet. The music by James Horner is perfect.
6. Spy Game – another good action story, original premise. Brad Pitt and Robert Redford are great together and the arc of Redford’s character is notable.
7. I Confess – one of Montgomery Clift’s first movies, directed by Alfred Hitchcock and filmed on location in Quebec City. You can watch this film without sound and you would know what is happening based entirely on Montgomery Clift’s facial expressions. His performance is riveting.
8. East of Eden – one of James Dean’s three movies. I wanted to choose one of his films and it was a hard choice between this one and Rebel Without a Cause. I chose this one for its more mature theme and his amazing emotional scene with his father.
9. Atonement – adapted screenplay was very close to the book, not an easy venture. James McAvoy is absolutely astounding in all his range of emotions during the film. Even though it’s not a happy story, the acting and the music make it worth every minute.
10. Meet Joe Black – Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins make a great duo. Even though this film needs some serious editing, the premise is interesting and the battle scene is priceless: “death and taxes”!
