Hey, Everyone! I finally had the opportunity to listen to the commentary in the DVD version of Twilight. I had been dreading it and I was pretty spot on. There should be a rule that commentary on dvds should only be by people who have a modicum of experience in this and who have no qualms about dissecting their work. I cringed through most of the first 20 minutes while Kristen and Catherine spoke and Rob was silent. They said nothing that I didn’t already know or had figured out from watching the movie.
Finally, Rob spoke up and it was such a breath of fresh air. It is so obvious how more educated and articulate he is. Plus his self-deprecation wasn’t expressed in vapid words but really good humor. He asked great questions of the director, the ones that I would have asked. And, he was silent when no commentary was necessary while the others went on about things that were not relevant to the scene.
How many times did I want to know how cold it was during filming? Or. how the weather didn’t cooperate? guess what, that happens all the time!
Anyway, all that I got out of it was a confirmation of what a good actor Billy Burke is – constantly “stealing scenes” per the director. And, that Rob is a really good actor on his way to becoming a great actor.
And, most importantly, I learned that in the hospital scene, Rob actually did most of his part alone, because Kristen was at school, which totally explains why he was able to pull off the scene against Kristen’s really bad performance. Great actors can do that…
Any thoughts from you?

Hi BritDee,
Well, let me see..when I listened to the commentary, I, too, had some of the same thoughts as you did. It has been a while but, I believe that I can remember.
I thought that there were some comments made by Catherine that made me think, “Did she just say that? I wonder why?” I also thought that some coments were posed differently by Kristen, but not enough to make me do a double take. They were okay, I think some of them made me wonder how she knew that?
And then there was Rob. I agree ..”a breath of fresh air.” He really sounded articulate with what he was saying, and sounded openly interested in learning more. He sounded like he was definately enjoying himself. One thing that is important for all of us to do is, when we need to self-critique, to do so in a way that is in good humor. It is so much better to do it this way than to put yourself down by doing so.
I think it is true, it’s not vital to fill every second of the commentary with anything in general. Rob handled it very well. Include that most salient comments, and state them in a articulate and professional manner.
I never knew that he did the hospital scene alone. If this was stated during the commentary, it seemed to have slipped my mind. How was this done? Wow, to be able to do this alone, is a great actor in the making. My boyfriend surprised me last night by renting the Blue-Ray version of Twilight, actually, so I remember the hospital scene very well.
Rob is producing many great characteristics, and I think that he will produce even more in NM, which will bring him to a completely higher level of acting very soon. Laura

BritDee and all, I like the New Moon poster. How about you guys? I can’t believe we still have 6 months to go before the movie is out. I keep going to the website every day to see what they’ve posted that day. I love some of the videos with people talking in italian. I can’t understand a word they’re saying, but you can tell they’re excited.

Hey Everyone!
I like the poster also! They all look stunning. I do think that Bella should be reaching for Edward somehow? Every so often, I realize how smaller Kristen is than both Rob and also Taylor. Is that accurate? But then again, sometimes there isn’t much of a difference. Just an observation..There certainly is nothing wrong with being petite..I fall under that category!
I keep heading over to the new website also! It is amazing how BIG New Moon is already. Someone (Burnett?) said over at MTV that Twilight/New Moon is SO much bigger than all of the other movies being presented. Come November, people will be going absolutely crazy for its release. I can only imagine.. Laura

Laura,
I agree that I thought Bella should be reaching out for Edward in some way. I think the poster is amazing all the same, and it is so much better than the Twilight posters. To me the poster makes them look grown up in many ways.
I know I’m excited for the release and can’t wait to see how everything plays out.

Michelle and Laura, to me the poster almost looks like Jacob is stopping Bella from going around him to get to Edward. At any rate, I agree that they definitely look more mature in this poster, and I, too, like this one better than the Twilight posters.

Hi Michelle and Sandy!
That’s true! Jacob does look like he is preventing Bella from getting to Edward..That in a way is somewhat true..Jacob does seem to be frequently in the way of Bella and Edward throughout the Saga. How frustrating! It is one of the better posters. I also love the one of Edward..the brownish one? I think that it was one of the very first ones? Anywhoo..they may even be making different posters in the future as BritDee has mentioned..As I always say..who knows..It is a beaut! Laura

Hi, Everyone and thanks for visiting! Love your comments.
I have several comments about the poster. First, Taylor (Jacob) is made to look taller than what he really is. You may notice that this often happens in movies, an actor looks taller than what he really is especially next to someone. For example, in Twins, Arnold was made to look way taller than Danny DeVito. Danny is small but not that small. Taylor is quite a bit shorter than Rob. You can check out the prom scene. And, in the beach scene, I believe Taylor is almost the same height as Kristen.
Secondly, Laura and Michelle are right that Jacob is preventing Bella from being close to Edward. And I think that Bella should be looking at Edward, not at the space in front of her.
As I’ve said, I’m sure the poster will go through various metamorphoses, especially since they may have some powerful shots from the filming in Italy.
What can I say about Edward/Rob. He looks incredibly strong and mature. With a mixture of concern and passion on his face. He is just amazing.
Btw, I think the very first poster that people think was official was not. The one with Edward in an unbuttoned shirt and the background of Italy. I don’t think it was official.
I’m still concerned and curious to know how the acting will turn out on Kristen’s part. I so hope that she shows deep emotions and passions and that she doesn’t mumble her lines, like she did in Twilight. It would ruin the effect of Rob’s acting.
We’ll see. Sandy, make sure you watch MTV awards on Sunday so you can see the premiere of the trailer. I’m sure it will go online right after.
Cheers!

Hey BritDee. I so much appreciate that you include me, the ancient lady, on the MTV Awards Show. I did go vote, of course. I will be watching the show.
They had pictures today of the scenes they were shooting where Bella and Edward kiss under the clock, etc. Someone on that site had mentioned that Edward had been working out for this shoot. You can really tell it. It’s so funny because the lines from the book instantly came to my mind. I hope the scripts kept pretty close to the book lines. I almost have those books memorized!

Hi, Sandy. I have to make this quick because my patient “unreliable mutt”, as Sam calls her, is waiting for her afternoon walkie.
Those are incredible pictures and I bet – like I said – the final poster will be more about that than the forest and Jacob. Because even though the story is more about Jacob, the entire WORLD will only have eyes for that part of the movie. With good acting and Rob’s emotions (man, you don’t need sound to know what is going through his mind) that part of the movie will be, what industry people call, “the set” piece.
Looking good! I have to say that Chris Weitz deserves enormous kudos for the work he is doing. It’s never easy to take over from another director who has done a good movie. But I am willing to be that New Moon will be even better and bigger than Twilight.
Cheers!

Hi Everyone!
Mumbling!! That’s what I was trying to say when describing Kristen’s acting in Twilight from way back! I think I said that she sounded like she had a mouth full of marbles..At any rate, I so hope this will be so also! I knew that Rob was taller than Taylor!! I kept thinking..”Now, I could have sworn that he was smaller..but Kristen was smaller also..but she’s now somewhat the same size…What?” I guess Taylor was standing on a box or something??!!
Soo many pictures are coming out…I am trying my hardest not to view any for the complete surprise come November..Rob does look so good and so strong…Speaking of Rob..Hey BritDee, do you think that you will be including anything here regarding any of his upcoming movies? For example, “Remember Me?” Actually, as I think about what I just asked, I guess you may because you included,”Little Ashes..” “Remember Me” actually sounds like a really good movie (Romance and all..)
Yes, looking forward to MTV-will be taping it..I wonder if Rob really will be there? I’m sure that they will all have a fun time..
Hope Tasha had a nice walk! Laura

Laura,
I completly understand what your saying about not looking at things to spoil the movie in the end. I looked at the video of the the .org site and then I felt like I cheated because I’m sure that part is going to be in the moive. It is nice to see how much better everyone looks. I mean Rob looks amazing. WOW that body. Just looks like a completely different set up which I think we all have been looking for.
Just try to be strong and not look

Hi Everyone!
Michelle, I know..I will be strong..I understand how it is to be anxious to see anything that is NM related, but, I would rather “politely scream” come November at its release. On the other hand, the picture that pushed me over the edge with this strong not-looking viewpoint was, the picture of Rob..without the shirt..So.. is that what he’s been hiding?? He really does look amazing..Phew! And…not to sound like a traitor..but..have you seen Taylor..without a shirt? Now, funny as it sounds..when I saw that picture, it didn’t bother me as much as seeing everything and everyone else..So, Taylor does look like he’s been working out like crazy..Anyway..Everyone does look great!
BritDee, would you know whether actors originally from England, receive any special formal training in acting? The reason for my question is, I have found that many, many actors from England are absolutely phenomenal actors (Rob, Michael Sheen, Jamie Bower to name a few..). Mr. Sheen, has just Tweeted that he will be presented to Her Majesty in order to receive a medal for his work in Drama! Isn’t that amazing! That sparked my question..Wow, for Her Majesty to notice his work..and not only that, just their overall decication to their work.. Good for them! Laura

Laura,
I so agree that Rob looks amazing as well as Jacob. I know most people are team Edward but I can so relate and feel for Jacob being in love with someone that loves someone else and having your heart broken. I didn’t really get it until I read Breaking Dawn.

Hey Michelle,
I know, so many people, unfortunately, do not care for BD. Sure it’s a huge book, but it is so important to the entire Saga. There is a reason why Jacob does what he does. Hard as it is to have it all exist, but, I have always said that there is a very important reason why he did everything that he did. To me, he did it all for Renessme. In the long run, sure at the beginning, everything was for Bella, but in the long run, it was for Renessme. If he didn’t, then who would have taken and watched her during the big fight scene? In addition to Edward and Bella? I’m sure that there would have been someone, but..this is what I think. Laura

Laura,
I agree with you about Jacob. Breaking Dawn was a bit hard for me to get at first because of everything that was going on. I liked Eclipse the best of them all.

Hi, Everyone! where do I begin? First, I will answer Laura’s question about British actors and their training. I went to British schools so I can only speak from experience but I think that MOST great actors are from England namely because they go to formal drama training. Sean Connery, Sir Anthony Hopkins, James McAvoy, Helen Mirren, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Michael Sheen – yes – Sir Laurence Olivier, Hugh Laurie (House!), Richard Harris – I could go on and on. There are several drama studios that are very difficult to pass but teach the method system as well as others. I prefer the method system – the kind of acting as done by James Dean. When I was in 3rd grade, for example, we did a play about Peanuts and I was Snoopy and I had to be a total puppy. It was very difficult, both in the acting and the action (I had to fall off the roof of my house). Then in 7th grade, I was a boy, and that was also really great because I had to fool the audience – which I did, even though I had long hair (pinned back).
So, there are many good actors in the US, no doubt about that, but the reason you see such outstanding acting from British actors is that most of them go to these tough drama schools that teach good old fashioned drama (not pretend you are a tree).
I am biased, for sure, but I’ve always felt that the British accent lends itself to good expression, as well.
Cheers!

Hey BritDee! I love all things British, from my Brown Betty teapot to my tv shows. My dad was stationed in Knettishall during WWII. Even though it was war time, he came away with a deep admiration of England and shared that with me. Actually, if I were to believe in past lives, I would believe I had one there. Almost all of my books are what they call “cozy English mysteries”, and the tv shows I buy by season are Midsomer Murders, Lovejoy Mysteries, and Final Suspect. I love Helen Mirren. I fell in love with Sir Anthony Hopkins when I was quite young and saw him in a movie with Elizabeth Montgomery. It was a remake of an old Bette Davis movie. I watch the Graham Norton show every Saturday night and laugh my butt off. If everyone in the world spoke like the English, I’d be a happy camper.

Hi Everyone!
Thanks BritDee for the information regarding the schooling of British actors. I believe that I am leaning more towards the fact that Rob has learned the method system of acting. He presents the whole character, not bits and pieces of it. And boy, does he present. And, sure, there are good American actors, but, the ones mentioned above, sure stand out for me..
Michelle,
I haven’t seen any of Rob’s other movies as-of-yet, but you know, there is one that I think I am beginning to really want to see, just from the little bit of information that I have read about it..The movie is “Remember Me..” I have a feeling that this will be a somewhat sad, teary – eyed romantic movie..And of course, who wouldn’t be great to portray an actor from this kind of movie than..Rob?
Sandy,
I also like many different kinds of British movies, they are all so good! Laura

Thank you, Everyone, for your thoughtful input.
I am looking forward to seeing “Remember Me”, however everything is riding on the actor who will play Rob’s love-interest. That actor must be equal in talent to Rob otherwise the movie will sink. I am sure that producers are taking this into consideration and it’s not easy to find a good actress of that age.
Any suggestions? Someone mentioned Emma Watson (the girl in Harry Potter) but I’m thinking she’s too typecast and needs to do other things first.
I love Emily Blunt but she’s too old. Anne Hathaway, who starred in “Rachel Getting Married” – scripted by Jenny Lumet, the same as RM, would be OK but may look too old for Rob, as well.
Above all, she has to match Rob’s talent. That’s my 2 euros!
Cheers!

Hi Everyone,
I was just watching CH as she was beign interviewed by MTV regarding some of the nominations (..Best Kiss, and also ..Best..(something.I can’t remember the category??)
She was speaking about why she thought that the kiss between Rob and Kristen should win. She menitoned that, the line where Rob says, “Don’t move..” along with the tension between the two, are the reasons why this particular kiss should win! SO true. You could break the tension in two!
She also spoke about Rob having soul to his acting. I couldn’t agree more. Wow, that really explains his acting. I think, BritDee, that Rob brings truth, depth, and soul to his method system of acting. Isn’t that beautiful to invision? I think so! Laura

Hi Everyone!
I just read that CH thinks that Taylor has a chance “to win” tonight for ..”Breakout Actor..” from Twilight. A.) How can she say this with Rob in “the running” and B.) How can you judge someone who really didn’t have many lines as Rob?
I have also read numerous items regarding Peter Facinelli. He really seems like he is such a nice guy..staying late at an event for the Troops, and most recently, he was involved with the MTV Gift House, and somehow, his involvement will be helping feed the needy in LA. This is rare to see. Laura

BritDee
Good morning, Laura. I’m not sure why CH would say that, perhaps it was taken out of context. You are absolutely right that you can’t give an award to someone who was barely on-screen. Maybe she said it to mean for Taylor’s role in New Moon.
The truth is that Rob is a bona fide actor, his reception at Cannes proved it. Twilight is nominated for 7 MTV awards and I can bet my house that he is going to win one of them.
I saw the trailer – yes I did – and I must say that KS still disappoints
By the way everyone, I want to introduce you to one of the most inspirational teenagers since Terry Fox (my hero).
Please check out his website: http://www.zacsunderalnd.com . He is barely 17 and is heading home to this part of California after sailing solo around the world.

Hi BritDee,
I’m sure the bit on CH must have been out- of- context, because she also had such nice things to say of Rob’s performance. It does seem out-of-context for her to have said that regarding Taylor.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed regarding KS monotone performance(s). I wonder why CW wouldn’t have encouraged her to change? Laura

I so agree about KS. We talked about this in your other blog on here and when I seen the clip on the newmoon site I was disappointed to see she was had that same “I don’t care much about this” feel. I wanted her to really bring it like Rob seems to be. Wasn’t KS hand picked by CH?

Hi, Everyone. I am absolutely floored that Kristen would win over Angelina Jolie, there’s absolutely NO comparison. But then again 20 million votes went for everything Twilight.
Sandy, dropping the award says it all, I think.
I was confident Rob would win breathrough actor – there’s no one else on the planet who qualifies.
And, I’m glad the fight scene won as well because some of the parts were really good, like James’ acting and the Cullens coming to the rescue.
Have a great evening.

BritDee, you have to consider the MTV target audience. They are not as educated in the art of film as you are. They just know they like Twilight and everything related to it. I, too, was happy the fight scene won. I thought Cam was an excellent bad guy, especially when he had that camera on Bella. They paid close attention to every detail in those scenes, right down to his dirty hands and fingernails. Cam was very scary to me.
I’ve now watched the New Moon trailer 4 times. I think you’re going to be surprised by Kristin’s acting in this one. In those scenes, she’s supposed to be kinda deadpan. First, she’s in shock from Jasper attacking her, but more importantly, she’s realized that something is not right with Edward. Subconciously she know something is about to happen and it “ain’t going to be good”. Also, in the scene with Laurent, she’s trying to think how she’s going to get away. Unfortunately, the way Steph wrote the books, alot of what Bella does is in her mind. That would not translate well on screen. So, as a thinker, Kristin does a good imitation. As an actor who is supposed to be acting out those thoughts, not so good.

Hi everyone,
I watched the trailer a few times and I think this movie is going to be amazing and so much better than Twilight. On the new moon movie site they show stills of the transformation that Jacob takes to become a wolf, and that was incredible.
I feel like this part of Bella is bigger than KS. To me she doesn’t seem like she is acting. She is just being herself. When I see Rob in other movies, or interviews he is different not just Edward. When I see KS she is just blah all the time. No real personality and that is how she is with Bella. I don’t see a differnce between her playing Bella or her in real life.
Britdee: Do you think Summit will remake Twilight to be more in line with the other movies in the saga?
This is just my humble opinion.
June 2, 2009 at 12:14 am
BritDee
Hi, Everyone! Sandy, I agree that a lot of Bella is thinking but if you look at Edward, without sound, you can see what he’s thinking and feeling. You look at KS in freeze-frame and she looks just like she does when she’s photographed coming out of LAX. There’s very little difference between KS and Bella (migirl – I share your opinion).
.
As a side note, one of the best movies to illustrate is The Confession, starring Montgomery Clift and Karl Malden. You can watch the entire movie without sound and you would know what’s going on from the facial expressions of Montgomery Clift.
Again, I don’t want to sound totally down on her. She’s pretty and she did some good scenes in Twilight (like the battle) but when it comes to showing her passion and love for Edward, who does a great job at it, she comes way too short. Edward – in that particular scene – looks totally in love regardless that he may be thinking that he has to leave her.
We’ll see if she improves. I’m anxious to see her scenes with Billy Burke, which were awful to the nth degree in Twilight. New Moon weighs heavily on her ability to carry the scenes that don’t have the alluring vampire. I’m sure Chris W. is aware of that since that’s what people in the industry have talked about since Twilight was released.
Migirl, I highly doubt that Twilight will be remade. Rob is chomping at the bit to move on to other projects and without him the movie wouldn’t mean anything.
Thanks for your input, Everyone. I like to see your viewpoints so don’t hold back just because I look at one side of things
Cheers!

I just finished reading New Moon again because the first time I just rushed through it to get back to Edward, and your totally right they are described as HUGE animals. I want to see how that is going to play out, as in the Trailer it was different. I don’t want to give too much away to you as I know you don’t want to know just yet

Hi guys! Michelle, you forgot Harry Potter. “Remember Me” hasn’t even been filmed yet, so the 4 movies is Harry Potter, Little Ashes, Twilight, and How To Be.
I thought Jacob looked HUGE as a wolf in the trailer. What I didn’t like was that it looked almost cartoonish. I’m hoping in the context of the movie, that won’t be the case. Regardless, his color wasn’t anything like what I had pictured.

Good morning! You are correct, Laura, Rob is scheduled to do three movies in the next year. His old movies are “How To Be”, “Little Ashes” and the saga.
His new movies are: “Remember Me”, which is in pre-production in New York; “Bel Ami” (Pretty Friend) which is scheduled to shoot in Paris (don’t know when); and, “Unbound Captives” with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz (whose purported talent and beauty I have yet to figure – sorry, I had to put in my 2 cents) and Madeleine Stowe directing.
So there you have it.

you also mention madeleine stowe directing….i’m floored!!! good on her…..i think she’s pretty great and i love to see her great talent being utilized to the fullest extent..

Hi Michelle!
Yes! Phew! Thank you! Duh! I am so silly! The movie that I just couldn’t remember, how, I don’t know, was, “How to Be!” How could I forget that! Hee! Hee! Anyway, I think that these are the only three movies which Rob has been/will be in..That’s right Sandy! Thanks! How could I forget..Cedric(?)..how sad..But..who knows, I will probably see HP again..great acting!
Hi BritDee! Thanks! Wow! Now I remember the other movies which Rob is slated to be in..They all seem to be such great ones! Hugh Jackman! Wow!
I know, each time that I read NM, I always skim over the parts of Jacob, although every time I get that that part, I always think that I should be reading it..but I don’t..sheesh! But, when I did read about the size of the werewolves, I nearly fell off the couch, and I thought, what? that can’t be?? It will definately be very interesting to see!
I’m not sure where you live but..wanna take a road trip?? (hee! hee!-I’m thinking about going into the city, just perchance..Nah, I would just be satisfied to say hello to Rob..) Laura

hey sk pruet…..
i’m all over this one…..if i may……i also thought that big bad wolf that sprang in the NM trailer was cartoonish…..until i was set straight!!! i was told that that cartoon figure was only a temporary insert cause the finished trailer was not ready in time for either it’s cannes debut or the MTV blow out……or both….
so apparently we still have a very special treat to come regarding jacob’s transformation into wolves clothing….. in the future…..

Hi, again. Bittersweet, I don’t know that he has to speak Comanche throughout the entire movie. As a captive, and like “Last Samurai”, Rob’s character probably becomes part of the community, learns the language and customs. It should be a great part for him to showcase his talent, especially if he has scenes with Hugh.
Gotta go to a meeting in Beverly Hills (yeah, I know, life is weird here).
